nasolabial fold

The nasolabial fold, or "marionette lines," is one of the most frequent reasons for consultation. It is characterized by grooves and creases running from the nose to the corner of the mouth, giving the face a heavier and more tired appearance.

Nasolabial folds are the result of aging processes in the anterior and middle third of the face (loss of volume, lack of support, and sagging).

These lines result from bone resorption in the piriform fossa, loss of volume and fat in the middle and lateral third of the face, weakening of the supporting ligaments and muscles, and increased skin laxity. Therefore, treatment of nasolabial folds should involve correcting these signs of facial aging to achieve a natural, authentic, and physiological result.

After correcting the underlying causes, it is rarely necessary to directly fill the nasolabial fold with hyaluronic acid.
