BAR-CODE

"Barcode lines" are the lines and wrinkles above the upper lip, which initially appear as a result of facial expressions and, with the aging process, can become more pronounced even at rest.

In the initial stages, the "barcode" only becomes evident when performing actions such as speaking, eating, or kissing, as it is a consequence of the contraction of the orbicularis oris muscle.

Because it's a frequently used muscle, and one that's covered by thin skin, these expression lines become more pronounced and deepened with age.

There are certain extrinsic factors that can influence and accelerate the appearance of wrinkles at rest, such as smoking habits.
