VOLUME LOSS
Younger faces are characterized by a facial shape that resembles an inverted triangle (pointing downwards). This is because the cheekbones are high and full, and the jawline is defined.
During the aging process, a series of phenomena occur in all layers of the face, from changes at the bone, muscle, and ligament levels, to the fat layer and the skin surface.
One of the most noticeable changes, which inverts the triangle of youthfulness, is the loss of volume and fat in the face. The jaw becomes wider and the cheeks sag, with an accumulation of fat in facial compartments where it was not previously present (forming grooves, such as the nasolabial fold and jowls).
The goal of aesthetic treatments is to restore lost volume through the use of fillers, restoring support to the face and bringing back the "triangle of youthfulness."
